Charlottesville has advanced to the Semifinals…
Our Competition – the 50 Semifinalist Communities
… and YOU can help us win,
Welcome to the Game:
Energize!Charlottesville is a two-year campaign to save energy as a community and win the Georgetown University Energy Prize competition’s $5 million grand prize. Of the over 8,000 eligible communities, Charlottesville has advanced to the Semifinals Stage!
We are now competing against 49 other communities across the USA. Winning will require a community effort (that means you!).
Every year, Charlottesville residents and businesses spend over $50 million on utility bills for electricity and gas; approximately half is from the residential sector. From 2000-2011, the largest increases in energy use were seen from the residential sector, and energy costs and demand are anticipated to continue increasing. As a community, Council has set goals to reduce the emissions from our energy use and to increase the affordability of housing in the city.
To win the competition, we hope to engage every resident of Charlottesville to consider ways that they could help save energy, reduce their utility bills, and improve the quality of life for them and their families.
